Corbett Jungle Safari - Safari Zones in Corbett National Park - Jim Corbett National Attraction

Corbett is densely populated with flora which is inclusive of sal, rohini, haldu, papal and mango trees. These trees cover over 73 per cent of the park. The remaining 10 percent of the area is grasslands. The park has over 110 tree species, 50 species of mammals, 580 bird species and 25 reptile species.

Elephant safari in the verdant jungles to find majestic tigers and group of giant elephant is the highlight of Jim Corbett National Park. Jeep Safari in open jeep is also a popular adventure to enjoy in the park. It is very adventurous to sit one the back of the elephant to sail in the remote jungles. You will enjoy seeing bubbly activities of animals and verdant beauty of nature. The elephants are beautifully bejeweled and decorated. A comfortable mat is also layered on the back of elephant let you travel comfortably. Jim Corbett National Park is known for housing good population of tigers and therefore, is frequently visited for tiger safari.

There are five Jungle Safari Zones in Corbett National Park namely the Jhirna, Bijrani, Dhikala, Durga Devi and Sonanadi.

Jhirna Safari Zone

Jhirna Safari Zone is excellent for bird watching. It is a densely wooded grassland. This region of the Corbett national park is home to the Great Hornbill, the bear, wild elephant. The tiger population is growing here too as there is abundance of prey like cheetal, nilgai, sambhar, wild boar etc. A large grove of 'Flame of the Forest' also adds to the view and offer great sighting opportunities.

Bijrani Safari Zone

This zone includes the forests of Sal in the upper reaches of Corbett national Park to a deciduous mixed forest in the valley and three major grasslands of the reserve. This region is home to a wide variety of herbivores making it the hunting ground of the Bengal tiger. This region was earlier a shooting block on the eastern boundary of the Corbett national park and has an extensive network of jungle roads. The Birjani forests are home to a wide variety of flora and are very dense. The area has abundant water supply and wide grasslands that make it a favored habitat of the deer, cheetal, sambhar, nilgai etc and their predator the Tiger.

Dhikala Safari Zone

This zone is the largest safari zone in Jim Corbett National Park and the most varied one. It also offers the best resources for overnight stays in the national park. The region is comprised of a varied terrain with the Ramganga river flowing through its middle. The region is abundtant in wildlife where the higher areas are home to Ghoral ( a goat antelope) and the rivers are home to Alligators (gharial), Crocodiles (Maggar) and the great Mahaseer.

Durga Devi Zone

This zone is rich in the variety of birds and famous for fishing Mahasheer. It is the north-east corner of the National Park. Ramganga River and Mandal River flow through it. This area is home to many rare birds like Maroon Orile, Little Fortail, Great Headed Fishing Eagle etc. The abundance of water supply attracts other animals here including the Tiger and Elephants.

Sonanadi Zone

It is the central zone of Jim Corbett National Park and is famous for the beautiful flora and fauna. It is the heart of the national park and is said to be home to more than 550 species of birds. The other inhabitants include the Tiger, cheetal, leopard, sambhar, nilgai and many reptiles.

Day visit entry fee for Bijrani, Sonanadi, Jhirna, Domunda/Durga Devi (per person/per visit for 4 hrs) : Rs 200/- Indian, Rs 1000/- Foreigner

Vehicle Fee (Light Vehicle to Heavy Vehicle): Rs 500/- to 1500/- (Depends on vehicle)

Photography (Commercial): Rs 500/- Indian, Rs 1500/- Foreigner

Elephant Ride (per person for 2 hrs) : Rs 300/- Indian, Rs 1000/- Foreigner
